Nocturama

 

Nocturama was born from a fascination with the night. I was camping in Uruguay with a small digital camera and a flashlight. I discovered that long exposure revealed a parallel reality — colors and textures that daylight never shows.

 

The name came from Nick Cave's album Nocturama. Something in that word captured exactly what I was finding: a nocturnal world, a place that only exists after dark.

 

The images are fictional scenes — stories I invented and recreated with friends in natural landscapes at night. I proposed the scene, they inhabited it. The only subject was the experiment itself.

 

Nocturama was a prototype. The technique I developed there became the foundation of everything that followed. Every project I have made since is, in some sense, a continuation of those first nights in Uruguay.

 

In 2006 the project won the Premio Curriculum Cero at Galería Ruth Benzacar in Buenos Aires — a prestigious award for artists under thirty with no prior exhibition record. It was my first prize, and the first time my work was seen publicly.
